Well this day could have gone better. I think the title say it all. Beth wants to take a break until we are safe back in Daikon. I don’t blame her for it and we will still be friends, but why does it sting so much. Just thinking about it is upsetting I sort of join the military to be close to her. More reason to hurry up and secure Canson, so I can get back to making out with her. Thinking about it are my priorities messed up? There are people dieing to get to Canson and all I can think about it making out. (more…)
Mom was the first one up today and she knew right away something was wrong. I was making breakfast when she sat down to ask if I was okay. There was no point in hiding it, so I told her about my dream last night. She told me that things will be okay and that it was just a dream. It was hard to hold back my emotions. At some point during our talk I started to cry and she gave me a huge hug. The kind that only a Mom can give. After our talk and breakfast was made Mom went to wake everyone up. I did not want to face Lily, but knew I had to. (more…)
It has been a another crazy week at again. Over 252 new people have been brought here by the military evacuation. The remeindits of the military hodgepodge together managed to fight off the attackers at their base and evacuated every civilian mostly unharmed. Two of the Helicopters got damaged and made some very interesting landings. One crashed landed in the onion field and the other next to Mr.Mezas goat barn. Thankfully none of the goats were hurt Mr.Meza is a little protective of his herd. Everyone walked away from it with just minor wounds. For the most part the new people have been thankful only a few fights have broken out. Usually it has been over food or one of the last cabins not occupied yet. Normal stuff survivor fight over
Dad had me come along with him for the talks with Lt.Maxfield and the new fourmed compound council. The council will be Fremont, Dad, Mrs. Robinson, Mr.Miller, Mr.Jack, Dr.Singh and Lt.Maxfield to stand in for Colonel Rives until he gets here. Mom was offered a seat, but said she had more important things to do around the compound. Most of what they talked about was food rations, housing, medical supplies and building new septic systems to handle that many people. Many people don’t know that a miss managed septic system can lead to death from infection. That infection could spread quickly and could wipe us all out. At least there are more people to help dig those now. Mom was going to be put in charge of that project until Lt. Maxfield pointed out that a couple of the new people brought to the compound were civil engineers. Finally a break for us kids. After the last project Mom headed we all needed a break from pharaohs whips. Then Lt.Maxfield talked about what the plan was for the rest of the military personal still at the base.
The plan was for the remaining military personal to load up a cargo plane with all the gear they could and land at the small airport in Canson. That would put them about two days drive away from the camp using the easiest path through the forest to get here. Once the Plane is loaded the remaining helicopters will act as a escort to make sure troops make it here. While Lt.Maxfield talked something did not sit well with me. I had to know why the military can’t reach other bases, so I asked. Everyone, but Dad and Mr.Miller gave me that look that you get the first time you sit at the adults table during Thanksgiving. Mr.Miller almost had coffee come out his nose from laughing at my question. He said leave it to the youth to ask the question the adults forget to ask. The answer Lt.Maxfield gave I think sacred all of us the most. He didn’t know why other bases have gone dark. They sent out two look out parties and none came back. That communication was not working right outside this area. That raised even more question. Dad had me leave the room after that. talks started to breakdown after my question. I guess I overstayed my welcome at the adult table back to the kiddie table for me.
I waited for Dad outside while the “Adults” finished the meeting. He was the first one out of the door and lead me right to his maintenance shop. The look on his face was of worry not or anger as he pulled me along. Dad told me that my question was good and why the radio sometimes work around us has been bugging him to. In the maintenance shop Dad brought me to his personal workshop that was behind a locked door. There he showed me some of the projects he has been working on to find out the answer to that question. He had a computer trying to make contact with a satellite in space and so far no pings back and other things. I had no idea what some of the stuff he was showing me was for. The take away I got was he still didn’t know what was causing communications blackouts. Why some radio seemed to work and others didn’t. Then after he gave me the you are new to the adult table talk. Then we headed back to work. The refrigerator in the mess hall was acting up again. Once we got it working called it a day.
Do to the new arrivals and everyone being busy tonight was free time. Mom and Dad gave us a few rules though like stay close to the cabin, use the buddy system and don’t talk to strange people. Courtney was hanging out with Olivia in the girls room while being on babysitting duty. I convinced Lily to come with me to go see Will and Beth. It didn’t take much to get her to follow. Had I asked to go alone to Beth’s Mom would have shoot it down. Lily traveling with me though smoothed things out and we got the okay. I had not gotten a chance to just be around Beth the last couple of days and it was eating me up inside. I could tell Lily was missing Will to. Mr and Mrs. Robinson were not home when we got there. Those two are always MIA. Beth and Will were home alone which if our parents knew that would not be good for Lily and I. Will and Lily took this opportunity to go and definitely not make out in Wills room. While Beth and I made dinner together and watched a movie. The Robinson have a working TV with a old school dvd player. With a bunch of old old old movies to choose from. Beth picked out Total recall for us to watch. Both of us had never seen it, but glad we did. It was some action movie from the 1980’s. After the movie was over it was time to go. I didn’t want to leave Beth alone, but she said it would be okay. I knocked on Wills door and told Lily it was time to leave. Will opened his door he didn’t have a shirt one and it looked like someone punched him in the neck. There was a large circle bruise on it. Lily and I said our goodbyes and then headed to bed. While I was giving Beth a hug goodnight she gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. I floated all the way home I don’t even remember the walk to the cabin. All I could think about was my first kiss. Today was such a great day.

It has taken some time, but I can finally write with my left hand again. I would not call my writing legible yet, but it would pass for a kindergartener. I came home five days ago. It was so embarrassing to be wheelchair from the medical facility back to our cabin. I was still getting a little light headed at times, so no long walks for me. At least Mom let Beth and Courtney push me around. It was the same wheelchair Lily had been using. Lily started walking around again with the help of a cane Mr.Miller made for her. I knew I was almost done with my road to recovery when Mom started giving me chores again two days ago. Courtney has been helping me with that and it is nice to be back to somewhat normal. She keeps telling me I still owe her for the goat. I had no idea what she was talking about until she gave me back my journal. To be honest I had forgotten about it the last couple of days. Almost dying to an infection, and losing two fingers hasn’t sparked the writer in me. My eyesight in my left eye has returned which is great! Everything is healing nicely I even got some of the big stitches removed. Some of those stitches were driving me crazy. I had a nice size gash in the middle of my back. Oh how it itched so bad at times. I could not reach it without the help of door frames or trees. Mom would yell at me every time I did the bear dance. You know the bear dance where put your back to a tree and rub up and down on it.
Later in the day Dad took me with him to do help complete the set up on some sensors he had set up around the camp. Nothing to hard just hand him the screwdriver or hold the flashlight. Near the end of the rounds we made it to the security/comms room. Only to find it was packed with people. At some point today the Radios came back online and not the short range one, but the long range. Mr.Jack had made contact with a military base! It didn’t take long before almost everyone in the compound was huddled in the room or close to the building. It was just great to hear that there was other pockets of humanity still around. The man that Mr.Jack was talking to was Colonel Mike Rives from the 101 Airborne. Dad and I stayed quite and tried to be flys on the wall, but soon everyone that wasn’t security, Dad or Fremont got kicked out of the room. Dad had me go back to our cabin and wait for him there. My hand was starting to hurt, so it was time for my medicine. I hate taking pain medicine, but I am in too much pain without it.
Beth was at the Cabin when I got there. She was on Brooke babysitting duty today. Brooke was finger painting with Beth in the kitchen. Kids toys are hard to come by let alone finger paint. When you are in survival situation fingers paints are not on the top of list. Which is a shame for Brooke. Coloring, and painting are her favorite things to do. Brooke had know that this was a treat. It was the cleanest I have ever seen her Paint not a drop was wasted. Which is amazing on top of where Beth got her hands on the paint in the first place. I had to know where Beth got it. Turns out that this old summer camp we are at used to have a art room. Beth found it was still full of art supplies. I had to promise to keep it a secret though. If more people ever show up with kids art supplies will alway be worth a trade. Once Brooke was done with her purple tiger with yellow spots it was time for a nap. I also joined in the nap this pain medicine just knocks me out. I woke up later tonight just in time for a home meeting with Mom and Dad.
Dad rounded the whole family up and even had the Robinson join us tonight. Which means Will and Beth were there. Beth showed up in a nice knee length dress with her auburn hair done in a single braid down her back. Her dress made her bright green eye stand out. Had Dad not brought up happened with the radio call today she would have been the only thing I would have noticed. We have been secretly dating for a little while. Thank you for the help with that Courtney I sure do owe for that one. Back to the Radio though. Did I mention Beth smelled of lavenders I am so lucky she would date me. Sorry again. Dad said that in a few days the military will make face to face contact with us. Colonel Rives will be sending his first lieutenant Maxfield to make the meeting. They will be coming here by helicopter, so we needed to clear a landing site for them. Which mean Mom is going to go into max chore mode to get that done. We discussed some more of the plans, but as you can tell I was distracted with other things. Then the Robinson headed back to their cabin for the night. I went with Beth to walk her home and got to hold her hand the whole time. I even got a hug before she went inside. Then it was back our cabin to go to bed Mom is sure to crack the whip starting tomorrow.
