Day 338 “The path to home”

Once we leave this shelter there will be no turning back. There is only 1 hideout left then a straight path home. We are headed to  “the beast” our family’s bug out RV. There will be no need to hold back on using our weapons anymore. As we get closer to Daikon the shoots will only help us this time. Soon I will be back with my family back where it is safe. Back to Daikon safe at last. Well that is the plan anyways. First we have to get there.

Now this last shelter is not called the Judge, but this last path home is. Either you are worthy of making it or not. It will also be the longest trail without a shelter to hide out in. Yes there will be a few temporary places, but nothing that could withstand an attack. We are walking on a path full of monsters, slicks roads and no help. I know if we  made it this far we can make it the rest of the way. What is the end of the world to stand in our way back home. It would have been nice to stay here for a little while longer, but that is not in the cards for us.   (more…)

Day 312

I am living the shelter with Beth tonight. The plan is to draw the horde of monsters trying to get inside away long enough for everyone to get to the SUV. Then start the trip back to Daikon.  Beth and I will then meet up with everyone at the mausoleum. If everything goes to plan. This might be my last entry for a while. We could be on the run the whole time back to Daikon. Which does not give me a lot of time to write.

Here is the plan as of right now. Beth and I will head to one of the wood sheds we have in the forest. Our family has a couple of these on our priority. Mainly to rotate the green wood to dry. We will head to two of them and set a fire. To keep the fire going I will be using the self feeding method. In the middle of set up I will pack it with greeniest wood that will burn. The fire should draw some attention, but the smoke should help mask our scent. Once the green wood drops it will tigger some noise makers attached to it. We should be at the second site deep into the forest before that happens. I don’t want to stick around to see what all that draws in. (more…)

Day 312 “door to nothingness”

If Lt. Gale didn’t have shelter shock before she does now. Everyone is starting to show the signs. The monsters are still  outside the shelter door. Testing for ways inside. Racking nails, teeth and claws against the door. Like nails on a chalkboard. It is only a matter of time until they get in at this rate. There is a second way out of the shelter a hidden passage. Leading to a hatch that will take us a little ways again from the front door. I doubt that more than 2 people can make it out this hatch without getting noticed though.

I am going to be honest with myself for once here.  If Colonel Rives is still recovering from a broken leg. It takes up to 3 months to fully heal from that. Even minor breaks take a long time with leg bones. Unless we can make it to the SUV going unnoticed he will not make it on foot to Daikon. I have seen the Charred run faster than even a healthy person can run.  Then add on top of that the only two people that know the area we are traveling is Lily and I. Which further reduces his odds if separated from us. He is a smart man and I can tell he knows this.  (more…)

Day 310 “The Zombies are coming”

Today is the final day outside before we leave for home. Colonel Rives is making great progress on walking and Ronin has fully cleared for duty. In two weeks we will be making our way back home. The SUV still needs some work and made ready to travel. Which means a lot of grunt work. Like rotate the tires, change the oil and clean out the filters if they even can be cleaned.  Lily and Beth are working on getting the packs for each ready. Ronin and Will were on guard detail. While we tasked away. It was Will that sounded the alarm to hide. The ghouls have made it to our home.

We gathered  to watch them march down the road. At first it was just a few of them. Then a small army of  just marching down the road. To fire a gun would be a death sentence for us. There were more of them than we had bullets.  We took shelter inside the garage while the ghouls passed. I had finished working on the SUV, so we hid in there ready to drive out of there if we needed to. Thinking back, we should have just ran back into the shelter. I was sitting in the driver’s seat and could just make out the endless tide of monsters. They were heading somewhere, but the road they are marching on ends in a few miles. Something must have been calling for them. (more…)
