Day 215

It has been snowing for two days now. This flurry has turned into a problem for all these new people. There still is not enough cloths for all them. Mom gave up almost all her sewing supplies to help make cloths. I managed to hide enough material to finish my blanket for Beth. Though I do feel a guilty  hiding it. Thinking about it Beth is one of those people that lost everything to. She deserves this blanket just as much as everyone else does. Courtney went looking for more fabric and found my stash. I told her about what I was doing with it. She thought it was sweet what I was doing for Beth. Also embarrassed me in front of the whole family about it later tonight. Something only a sister or mother could do.

The snow did bring some  welcome news. The charred can’t handle the cold. During a routine sweep of the forest Colonels rives men found a couple of them frozen solid. They brought one of them back to study. Maybe the medical team can learn something that we could use to combat them better. Just seeing that thing close up makes my left hand itch. Its teeth are bigger than I remember. If it was up to me I would have just dispacted it where I found it. Research is important, but what if this thing thaws out and rampage inside the medical hut. Thankfully the military was thinking the same thing and had five guards posted around it at all times. Until the vivisection was complete. Still I think was a bad idea to bring here I guess time will tell if I am right.

 Day 213

The radios are workings again. During the night all communications started receiving signals. Though it still is a bit staticy. No one knows what had changed to make it all work, but it is. We are picking up chatter from all over. Most of it not good. There are  a lot of calls for help. Colonel Rives has been able to each a 1 star general. They have been talking privately most of the day. With the radio’s coming back online it is all people can talk about today. Gossip is going around like crazy. From the government is fighting back the monsters. To soon we all can go back home. Pipe dreams from people that miss the old ways. (more…)

Day 212

I think the title says it all for this one. We completed our steam engine got everything working and then it blew up. Okay not like a giant ball of fire more like a balloon with a small leak. When we were building it someone put a small hole in the pressure vissle. Thankfully no one got hurt. Everyone was wearing the appropriate safety gear and we started up the engine behind some plexiglass. Sort of depressing seeing our hard work go up in a ball of steam like that. Though most of the machine is salvageable. Mom said that during the time of the american industrial revolution that  accidents like this were common. After school my fellow classmates got together for some more D&D.

There is a cult that is trying to bring about the end of the world and we have to stop them. During tonight’s campaign we almost didn’t make it. A couple of unlucky 1 rolls knocked two people out.  Wights are serious monsters I think they have the ability to control dice rolls. Every time one showed up at no fewer than 5 “1” where rolled. It was a intense time exploring the town of Nulb. I would have like to play more, but everyone had work in the morning . These table tops nights have been a great way to relax and remember what it is like to have a normal life again. If only we could do this more often.

After we called it for the night on gaming everyone headed back home. I walked Beth back to the Robinsons cabin. Which you would have never guessed it they were not home. It was cold and windy tonight. Clouds hung low in the sky we are due for some snow in the next few days. All the new people have been crammed into the cafeteria to stay warm. Since the events of the castle at the end of the world there is a lot more room in there now. Thinking about that soured my alone time with Beth. She knew something was going inside my head and just left it at that. We just sat in her living room holding each others hands listing to the fire crackle in the hearth. It was a nice way to end the day. A little before 10 I left for home tomorrow will be a early day and calling in sick is hard when your Dad is your boss.

Book Blurb

It’s 1916, and the world is on fire.

The Great War has already consumed much of the globe, but a second, secret war between sorcerers threatens to crack it in two. The ruling families of Germany and Austria-Hungary, those with the chill of magic in their blood, will stop at nothing in their quest for power, and they’ve drawn the entire world into a bloody war because of it.

But Florence Cavell—codename Geist—means to stop them. She had to defy her family, cut her hair, and disguise herself as a man to join the legendary Ethereal Squadron: a joint US-UK division of the allied powers’ mightiest sorcerers. Armed with her powerful specter sorcery, which allows her to “ghost” through bullets and barbed wire alike, Geist fights a tireless battle to end the war once and for all.

But then the Germans unleash the Grave-Maker Gas, a concoction so deadly it destroys everything it touches and transforms even the strongest sorcerers into terrible monsters. Even her ghostly magic can’t resist the gas’s corrosive power, and it costs Geist everything she loves—her team, her friends, even the use of an arm.

This is the new weapon that could end the war—and give the Germans the world.

Now Geist must risk it all to lead a new team deep into hostile territory to discover the source of this terrifying new technology before the enemy sets it loose upon the world. Will she be able to stop the Grave-Maker Gas before it’s too late…or will the secrets of her past finally catch up with her? (more…)

Day 210

Life finds a way to keep you busy. I am back at work with Dad.. Something chewed up the electrical lines on the solar arrays. Which we had to replace all of them. Then we had to rebuild one of the wind turbines. The wind turbine had to be replaced because a  rat chewed a hole inside the casing of the turbine Squirrels and rats must be the bane of electrical workers everywhere. It is not like we have rolls of electrical wire to spares. Then after work Mom started homeschool again. We are going over the American industrial revolution and why it was important. Then got a new class project. For once it was something interesting we are going to make a steam engine. Nothing too advanced just a single piston engine. How hard can it be to make something run on steam? (more…)

Day 200

It has been over a week since I returned home from the nightmare castle. Sleep still has not come easily. I have taken up sleeping inside the shelter under the cabin. At first Mom protested then got over it once I told her about my nightmares.  The monsters outside the walls dance in my dreams. Some nights it is the battle of the ghouls where I lost my fingers on my hand. Other nights the Crypt Wisp followed us back here and snuck into out cabin at night. The monsters are not what scares in it is the body of my slain friends and families that gets to me. I am always the last one the monsters go for. Thankfully they  have only attacked me in my dreams. No monsters have attacked us in since coming back home. Though I was in for a surprise this morning (more…)

Day 192

Our expeditions to the castle at the end of the world was a failure. Of the over 50 people that left only 30 are coming home. We are injured, battered and will carry the trauma of these events forever. The rescue plan unlike or expedition was a success. Thanks to the two helicopter pilots and ev team all the injured will at least be coming home tonight. While the rest of us make a speedy journey back to camp Daikon. Tried but alive which is better than the 20 that lost their lives. (more…)

Day 191

5 people volunteered to go out during the day to test the theory of when the Crypt Wisp are awake. The plan is for them to stay out all day. Once the wisp appear they are to lead them back into the main building where it will be studied on how to take them out better. From there we will have better information on what we can do to escape. It was as sound plan too bad that is not how it went down. Everything fell apart when the Crypt Wisp that managed into hide inside the house ambushed all of the volunteers. (more…)

Day 190

We have been stuck inside the bunker for two days now. People are starting to get cooped up. Only two days and some are already losing it. This bunker is ten times bigger than the one at our at house. These people need to get it together. I guess after last night I don’t blame some for stressing out though. Crypt wisp managed to find a why into one of the underground passages. There are only a few door between us and them so people are getting unnerved. More of wisps  keep showing up outside the compound walls. Only during evening and early morning do they move around. During the day they cover themselves and hide. I wonder if we can use that to our advantage? (more…)
